Getting Started: The First Month of Construction

Once you’ve signed the contract, the first step in building your custom home is preparing the lot and pouring the foundation. Everything else in the construction process relies on getting this initial phase right, as foundation issues later can become costly to fix.
The first phase is all about site work. This includes clearing and grading the land and setting up proper drainage to ensure that rainwater doesn’t lead to future problems. Next, we take care of essential utility connections for water, electricity, and installing either a sewer or septic system, depending on location needs.
Then comes the critical part: laying out and excavating for the foundation. We’ll pour the foundation and allow the concrete to cure properly. Upon curing, we stress post-tension cables, creating an engineered foundation designed to withstand the unique shifting soil challenges we face here in Texas. This whole phase typically takes around 3 to 4 weeks, depending on weather conditions and necessary inspections.
A solid foundation is crucial as it sets the stage for all other phases of your home build. For more details about starting your own project, give me a call at (469) 853-7952. I’m here to provide honest answers and guide you through the process from the ground up.
