Having just established S. Clements Homes the year before, we managed not only to survive but thrive, thanks to a fundamentally different approach.

We never built spec houses, preferring to operate on a simple rule: build only when there’s a contract and deposit in hand. Unlike many, we chose not to take on debt to run day-to-day operations, instead living strictly within our means. I didn’t believe in overpromising just to win contracts; we provided straightforward prices and kept our promises—qualities that stood out when others faltered.

As more builders failed, their customers sought us out for the stability we represented. This period was a testament to why sustainable business practices aren’t just ethical—they’re vital.
